Every year, Christmas time amazes. It’s just—well—fun. I feel joyful, reflective, more cognizant of the value and significance of my loved ones, and excited for the beginning of a New Year.
I find Christmas music to be unparalleled. This year I actually started listening to it before Thanksgiving. And, you know, all the kermudgins that shame me for this (my husband included) are of no concern to me. I will revere each day I get to listen to “O Holy Night” and “I’ll Be Home For Christmas.” I light myself a pine scented candle, drink some peppermint tea, and soak it all in!
During this time of year, I’m also thankful for time off to spend with family and friends. We have some epic ski tours in the works! We’ll wander into the woods, laden with plenty of Kate’s Bars and a little hot cocoa (marshmallows included), and see what happens. Ski touring allows us to get up high to see the most brilliant morning sunrises. Each day I think, “now THAT is the best one I’ve seen yet”. Of course, we’ll also ride the chairlift on Christmas Day—something we don’t do often enough. I look forward to skiing with old friends and “laughing all the way…” The mountains are a special place to be.
And of course it’s not all about skiing—that would be boring. Christmas is also about cookies, family, friends, napping, music making, sledding, and for me, art making. I love days when I just get to doodle—maybe sketching out a greeting card design for a client. My one skill set worth something is art. I can’t wrap my mind around basic accounting or home improvement projects, but drawing—that I can do. I made this little ski girl earlier this week. I think she captures the essence of the season.
So from Kate’s family to yours—Happy Holidays! Be gracious, eager and a little lazy. And always proceed with a heart full of love!
