Kate’s Tram Bar Athlete, Brian Garrahan, just took first place at Round 2 of the AMA’s West Coast Hare Scrambles! After winning the overall title last year, Brian is motivated to defend his title, and looks like he’s on his way. The impressive thing about this race (besides the fact that he was 57 seconds ahead of the next rider) was that the course was a muddy disaster, but it didn’t seem to faze Brian. “It had been raining and snowing right up to the day before, and the course was full of mud. I feel that gave me an advantage over other racers who may not consider those to be optimum conditions.â€
The race, which took place February 23, is part of  the AMA Racing West Hare Scrambles series. These races are conducted on long, marked-loop courses through woods or desert and over rugged natural terrain. Events feature a designated number of laps or time limit, typically two hours. Competitive riders not only need to be fast, they must be physically fit to maintain a race pace for hours. Oh, and they must be willing to get completely covered head to toe in mud! Just check out the photos below:
Way to go, Brian!
