Ten years ago my friend and mentor, Rich Rinaldi, and I were at Snowbird when he offered me my first guiding job. I was young and hungry and inexperienced–and never so stoked in my life. This season, I was back at Snowbird with Teton Gravity Research for the first time since then. I was a guest instructor for the International Pro Riders Workshop, a TGR mountain safety conference.
Much has happened in 10 years. I’ve lost some of my brothers to the mountains, and that doesn’t get easier. And I, too, have made mistakes along the way. I’ve also lived a life I never imagined possible, working with some of the heaviest skiers and riders in the world, those who I have the maddest respect for. I’ve also explored some of the wildest places!
I take this moment to say thank you to the people that believed in me a long time ago Rich Rinaldi, Christian Santelices Nat, Mike Poborsky. Also thank you to my bro Greg Epstein and JeremyJones and EXUM Mountain Guides for all we are making happen now. Thank you all.Zahan Billamoria is a Kate’s Real Food ambassador and an Exum Mountain Guide. He lives on the east slope of the Tetons with his wife and two children. In his downtime, you can find Zahan saddling up to a big breakfast or traveling with the fam in his camper van.
Here’s some shots from Zahan’s latest outing in the Tetons with pro snowboarder, Jeremy Jones…
