Gene Hamilton

Gene’s love affair with anything two-wheeled started when he was six—after he received his first purple, banana-seat bike for Christmas. And despite his funny walk, asthma and lanky six-foot-tall body, he spent nearly every weekend in his teens at the BMX track. Gene’s cultivated athletic prowess led him to a career in professional snowboarding and coaching. But his first mountain bike race in 1993 marked the beginning of his mountain biking career. Gene founded BetterRide, an organization that hosts mountain biking camps and clinics, and has coached both beginners and pro racers. He writes training articles for Dirt Rag and has been featured in The New York Times, Decline Magazine, Mountain Bike Action and USA Today. Even with years of experience behind him, Gene still continues to grow and improve his coaching with every lesson taught.
