Don’t Over Serve Yourself.
Over serving is everywhere: holidays, the leftovers, mid run, your best bartender, you're mother’s fresh baked cookies…and even at lunch you can get one of those thick food hangovers that takes twenty four hours to shake. The wrong snack habits are the biggest instigators of over serving.
Most of the time, you don’t need as much as you think you do. That’s why Kate’s is so excited to announce our newest products, Bites. Bites are 120 -130 calories in your favorite flavors, Tram, Stash and Griz. So often you’re body is depleted of minerals, fats and calories but the truth is your butt isn’t 24 miles from home on foot. You’re at the office or running errands, and need something. When that happens, we tend to go for the worst salty or sweet option in front of us. And even when we find the best possible option, we tend to eat as much as possible not correlating what our bodies are actually doing but how we feel. Our bodies are desperate for fuel, and low blood sugar makes bad food calls look great. And there you just did it, you over served yourself while driving around town.
Eating well isn’t as easy as shopping well. How you eat is as important as what you eat. Understanding your eating patterns will help you determine if you’re binging or fasting unnecessarily. If you’re not familiar with your eating schedule, keep a food diary for a little bit, take a look at your receipts—do you buy something extra with your coffee in the morning, almost all of the time?
According to the author of French Women Don’t Get Fat, Mireille Guiliano, “if you are craving chocolate, have one bar of good quality chocolate and have one bite, that's all you really need to satisfy your craving. It's that discipline that really separates American women and French women. American women are so wrecked with guilt regarding food that they tend to go from one extreme to the other.” It’s a rough call out but Giuliano is correct. About 34% percent of Americans are 30 pounds heavier than a healthy weight. And worse, we Americans eat while driving and rush through meals blindly. Meals need to happen with formality like your favorite pitch, there’s needs to be an added sacred value to the process. Look at your food and taste it. Treat it like an expensive imported dark chocolate truffle—eat slowly and enjoy every second of the three bites because when you’re done, you’re done.
A few thoughts on take with you on how to watch your servings. Be prepared ahead of time with a healthy snack in your bag. Savor and take your time with every delicious morsel and enjoy the chew. Serve smaller portions on smaller plates. If it’s not there, it’s not there. Know your weaknesses. Don’t let your blood sugar drop and drive by the doughnut shop. Think about how you eat as a daylong process not a meal by meal call. You’ll ensure you’re getting the proper amount of fats, proteins and necessary minerals to keep your performance optimum, even if you’re just pushing the mail cart.
