Some people choose to put their career first and their location second. Like many folks who live in mountain communities, I chose to make the mountains my priority. My career fell naturally into second position.
I am a graphic designer. It’s what I went to school for and, to be honest, I think I’m pretty decent at it. Do I have a lot to learn? Absolutely. But I have always been an illustrator with a true love for art. My mom said my best babysitter was a roll of butcher paper and a box of Crayola Markers (preferably the 24 pack but I’d settle for the 8 pack).
By choosing to live in Breckenridge, CO, I have limited my options for making my career dreams come true. It may come as a shock to some, but this bustling metropolis of 4,000 people just doesn’t house a design firm on every corner. Currently, I work part time for the town of Breckenridge and provide freelance graphic design services on the side. I couldn’t possibly complain about my job – I work with great people and for an incredible organization. They take good care of me! Still, I continue to chase my dream of creating art for sports and races. This medium epitomizes my style and merges my two passions.
Not only do I love design projects, but I also love collaborating with my friends in our small community. Even better, I get to participate in the races I design for, only adding to the fun! I’m living proof of not giving up on dreams. Keep chasing. Hard work will undoubtedly get you places. In the meantime, I’ll be putting my endurance and art nose to the grindstone.
