The new packaging at Kate’s Real Food has been really popular since it debuted in late September, 2011, but it’s attracting more than just new customers. The new packaging for the energy bar company just won an “American Package Design Award” from Graphic Design USA! The bright colors and the playful, outdoor themed graphics were designed to emphasize the company’s roots and culture, as well as have great shelf presence.
Kate Schade, owner and founder of Kate’s, explained “we really put a lot of time and thought into the design, since it’s such an important part of marketing, but we certainly didn’t expect to win an award! It’s a really great surprise for us.” Working with Miriam Walsh of Walsh Design, the two combined Kate’s vision and Miriam’s design expertise with previous versions of the label from Multeye Medium to create the new look. “Miriam has lots of experience with package design in particular, so we were really lucky to be able to work with her” Schade noted. “There are so many details to consider that it was nice to have someone in-the-know to get it right.”
Along with receiving the award, photos of Kate’s packaging will appear in Graphic Design USA. The award will help gain sought after brand recognition for the company which officially launched in 2010.
