Learn About Hemp Seeds Benefits

At Kate’s Real Food, we pride ourselves on using high-quality, organic ingredients in our energy bars-- including hemp seeds. Our Peanut Butter Hemp & Flax flavor is a delicious twist on a peanut butter and chocolate combo that is filled with protein, complex carbohydrates, antioxidants, and vitamins and minerals.

Our nutrition blog addresses the elephant in the room: hemp. Some people are wary of the word hemp, because they don’t know enough about it. We can assure you, the hemp seeds in our bars will provide you with incredible health benefits that only a superfood can.

Is There THC in Hemp Seeds?

It is actually a common misconception that hemp seeds contain the active ingredient in cannabis, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). The Federal Department of Agriculture tells us that “hemp seeds do not naturally contain cannabidiol (CBD) or THC...the hemp seed products – hulled hemp seed, hemp seed protein powder, and hemp seed oil – can be legally used in the U.S. food supply.”

Hemp seeds are perfectly safe and legal to consume in the United States. In fact, hemp seeds have a number of health benefits.

Benefits of Hemp Seed

We love our ‘superfoods’ and definitely think hemp seeds deserve that title. From their protein, to the omegas-- this small seed takes our organic energy bar to the next level. The key benefits of this food revolve around its macronutrients.

Macros

These are the nutrients your body needs in large amounts-- protein, fats, and carbohydrates. We are loving the macro balance of hemp seeds! The nutrition value of hemp seeds shows about 20% protein, 6% carbs, and 74% fat. There’s nothing wrong with a healthy dose of complex carbohydrates--but this natural fat and protein combo is one we weren’t going to pass up on.

Carbohydrates

What this superfood lacks in carbs, it makes up for in protein and fats. Complex carbohydrates serve a great role in our diets, but hemp seeds help to balance the scales with a heavy dose of fats and protein.

Protein

Hemp seeds are a great source of protein. Protein not only provides our bodies with the daily caloric energy we need, but strengthens our bones and muscles. The value of this praised macronutrient is one of the many reasons we love this seed.

Fats

The values above show just how fatty hemps seeds are. Fatty with essential fats-- fatty in all the right places. Essential fats, like omega 3 fatty acids, have to be consumed through food because the human body cannot produce them alone. These polyunsaturated fats naturally found in hemp seeds are providing your body with the best food for energy and the proper sustenance it needs.

The word ‘hemp’ on our beloved Stash Bar is nothing to be wary of. We are proud to show off one of the many whole-food ingredients of this organic food bar. As one of our founder’s favorites, we definitely recommend you keep a stash of your own. Shop the Peanut Butter Hemp & Flax bar today!
