Why Choose Organic?
Why Choose Organic?
There are many different ways to grow and produce crops and ingredients for food today. Organic foods are those grown without any genetically modified materials in them or pesticides, fertilizers, and seeds. Though you may not be able to see the difference between an organic apple and a non-organic apple, the differences may be enough to make the switch away from conventionally grown crops.
Keep Chemicals Out
Organic crops are grown without the use of any synthetic herbicides or pesticides and they are handled completely naturally. This means that by eating organic foods you are avoiding consuming any unwanted chemicals. The Center for Ecogenetics and Environmental Health research reveals that synthetically created materials used on crops have been shown to have adverse effects on children's’ health and workers on the farms using these materials. Even just washing fruits or vegetables with these chemicals on them may not completely remove them either.
Keep the Planet Clean
Organic farming practices are much more eco-friendly as well. Organic farming is designed to protect the soil used to grow crops, reduce pollution in the surrounding land, and increase the quality of the soil by keeping synthetic pesticides out. This method is also much safer for the animal life surrounding farms; birds and other smaller animals are at much more risk around synthetic farming materials. Since organic farming focuses on zero use of synthetic materials, the process allows for a self-sustaining cycle of farming through crop rotations.
Better Food
Crops grown on organic farms are generally much fresher than those grown conventionally because they are grown without the preservatives. Livestock on organic farms are generally treated much better as well, they are allowed natural grazing patterns and much more room to roam. Organic foods are grown naturally, the focus for farmers is on keeping the crops as healthy and delicious as possible without any artificial additions into the recipe.
Which is Organic?
If you are unsure of how to tell if what you are buying is organic or not, look for a USDA Certified Organic seal on the packaging. The USDA has many requirements and standards in order for a producer to be certified organic, these standards must hold to gain and keep the certification. Make sure to read labels carefully as well to get the most information out as possible about what you are eating.
